How Do I Apply?

You can apply via the Office of State Revenue.  Forms are available to down load from their website.  A mortgage broker or your lender will be able to assist you with completing the application.  You can also visit www.firsthome.gov.au First Home Buyer Questions

How Much Can I Get?

This will depend upon your eligibility.  If you are eligible for the first time home buyer grant then for all contracts signed before the deadline each homebuyer will get $14,000 for purchasing an established home and $21,00 if you are building or buying a new home.  You may also be able to get rebates on stamp duty, and some states offer added concessions to first home buyers.

Can I claim the grant if I do not plan to live in the property?

At least one applicant must occupy the home as their principal place of residence for a continuous period of at least six months, commencing within 12 months of settlement or construction of the home. 


How Long Does It Take To Get Approved for the grant?

The grant usually gets approved at the time of settlement.  Most major lenders are authorized to receive the grant on your behalf.  If you are building a new home, the grant will be approved once your lender issues the first scheduled loan payment.

From October 1st 2009 the First Home Owners Grant is reduced to $10,500 for those buying an existing home, and $14,000 for those building or buying a new home.  Then from December 31 it will be cut back to the original $7,000 for both categories.
